Quality Assessment Leads To Targeted Support And Better Outcomes For Emerging Young Adults

The P2I is an essential instrument for helping make some of the most important decisions in life.

By combining an easy-to-administer self-assessment with detailed informant reporting the P2I provides a comprehensive evaluation of an individual’s readiness for independence. Strength-based and solution-oriented, score reports provide an easy-to-read roadmap of both areas of competency as well as areas for future growth.

The P2I puts valuable information in the hands of emerging young adults, parents, educators, therapists, and other stakeholders, helping empower individuals to make progress on their own path to independence.

Planning for College

Too often families assume academic success in high school predicts academic success in college. While academic strength certainly helps, what often gets missed is the interdependent nature of college and the premium placed on these skills. Self-advocacy, sleep hygiene, diet/nutrition, social navigation, stress management, etc. are all skills necessary for success in college, and are intertwined with academic success.

The P2I provides a comprehensive and detailed analysis of an individual’s current level of independence in a variety of adaptive life skill domains. This analysis can help determine strengths and areas of deficiency, prior to the start of college, allowing for more effective transition planning.

Entering the Workforce

Whether going to work after high school or college, the transition to the workplace can be equally complex, requiring a slightly different set of skills.

Managing finances, connecting with community, and possessing critical employability skills are essential. Being smart consumers of online content, collaborating with a team, compromising on issues of disagreement, taking initiative and demonstrating leadership are just some of the skills necessary for success in any field.

The P2I provides comprehensive evaluation on of the skills one needs to successfully transition to independent living and a vocation, whether that transition occurs after high school or college.

Treatment Planning

One of the key outcomes for all treatment programs is to help their clients achieve their maximum level of independence, but determining transition readiness can be complex and challenging.

The P2I evaluates a client’s ability to monitor their own physical and mental health, manage their finances and daily tasks, and maintain and develop personal relationships – all necessary components of a successful and independent adult lifestyle.

The P2I provides a comprehensive adaptive life skills analysis of strengths and areas of need, and can also be used in treatment planning and monitoring and quantifying critical progress, helping to improve individual and programmatic outcomes.

IEP Transition Planning

IEP teams are required to develop a transition plan to help students determine what they want to do after high school and what steps are necessary to get there. In fact, IDEA law requires that at age 16 (or before if appropriate), an annual IEP must have appropriate measurable postsecondary goals, including transition services and courses of study.

The P2I was specifically designed to address the needs of students who learn differently. Whether identified as a student with a Specific Learning Disability (SLD), Autism (ASD), or Other Health Impairment (OHI), the P2I provides IEP teams with the necessary information to create a thoughtful, targeted, and effective transition plans which can include a clear roadmap toward independence.
